Product Description Now in its fifth edition, FUNDAMENTALS OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS continues to offer a concise overview of information systems fundamentals in a short, nine-chapter format. Students will be presented with the core IS principles, offered an overview of the IS discipline, and will learn the changing role of the IS professional. By achieving these goals, FUNDAMENTALS OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS will enable students, regardless of their major, to understand and use fundamental IS principles so that they can function more efficiently and effectively as workers, managers, decision makers, and organizational leaders. Each chapter has been completely updated with the latest topics and examples. Chapters have more than 50 new references; contain all new opening vignettes, Information Systems @ Work, and Ethical and Societal Issues special interest boxes; and contain examples of actual individuals and organizations using IS to their benefit.

nice discussion of globalisation September 10, 2005 W Boudville (Terra, Sol 3) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The authors give an updated view of the basics about information systems (computers and networking, if you will). This field keeps changing so fast that new texts are continually needed.
The book ranges from descriptions of one computer to that of networks of computers. What you get from it will vary, depending on your needs. The discussion on globalisation is very topical. And throughout the book are questions that help raise awareness in the student about IS issues.
