Product Description Data communications and computer networks are becoming increasingly more important--today's business world could not function without either. DATABASE COMMUNICATIONS AND COMPUTER NETWORKS offers a balance between technical and practical aspects of data communication. Business managers, computer programmers, system designers, and home computer users alike need a through understanding of the basic features, operations, and limitations of different types of computer networks. DATA COMMUNICATIONS AND COMPUTER NETWORKS introduces concepts that help the reader achieve an in-depth understanding of the often complex topic of data communications and computer networks by balancing the more technical aspects and the everyday practical aspects. The sixth edition retains many of the elements that made the fifth edition so popular, including readability and coverage of the most current technologies. Great Book for Beginners February 17, 2002 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
One of my networking classes for IST required this book. I've read chapters 1,2,3,4,5,6, & 12. I actually enjoy reading this textbook and look forward to reading more chapters. Other students in my class enjoy reading it too. It goes into just enough details about the electronics behind the scene but nothing to extensive. It also provides a great overview about networks, without over welling the reader with tedious facts. The book starts out about the OSI model and then walks the reader through each layer. It is a great book and I would encourage any instructor seeking a textbook to test this one out, your students will be glad you did. *Also useful for someone interested in networking for the first time or someone who wants to see the whole picture.
Great book that provides all I need December 22, 2006 J. Apinyawat (Chicago, IL) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I used this textbook for TDC course at DePaul.
It was really helpful and useful especially for newbie.
Plus the details are not too general.
I actually learned something... November 14, 2006 D. Wallace (Tennessee) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book laid out as much information as possible without cluttering the pages with filler. There were several real-world examples, and the helpful diagrams really put the words into action. Now, there's any humor in this book, so don't expect to be entertained. And there's a lot of information in this book. I mean a lot. But if you actually want to learn something about networking and data communications, you won't be disappointed.
